Make A Crappy Telescope Better Part 2

The parts for the telescope have arrived and I have to say I’m kind of excited. As you can see I have a Meade 4000 Super Plössl 9.7mm eyepiece and a 2″ to 1.25″ eyepiece adapter. My telescope came with a 12.5mm Huygenian eyepiece and I’m happy with the 93x magnification it produces. The 9.7mm eyepiece will create more magnified image, but really hope the resolution is better. I want to be able to see more that just one of Jupiter’s cloud bands.

I would like to say thanks to website First Telescope. That is where I purchased the parts for this project. Instructions for installing the new equipment can found after the break

The steps for installing the eyepiece adapter are really simple.
Step 1: Unscrew the current 2″ to 0.965″ adapter from the focuser.

Step 2: Screw on the 2″ adapter ring that came with the telescope.

Step 3: Insert the 2″ to 1.25″ adapter into the focuser and secure using the thumbscrews.

Step 4: Insert the 1.25″ eyepiece into the focuser and secure using the thumbscrew.

Thoughts: Previously I mentioned my telescope wasn’t of the highest build quality and the focuser really shows that. Everything except maybe the focus knob shafts is made of plastic. I don’t think it will take very long to strip the threads off the focuser if I switch between 1.25″ and 0.965″ eyepieces. Oh well, if things do break then I will have more of an excuse to upgrade to new telescope.
